On the evening of Monday, July 1st, our dedicated team of firefighters engaged in a training session focusing on the critical technique of drafting. Drafting is a specialized skill used to draw water from alternative sources when traditional fire hydrants are not accessible.
For this particular exercise, the team utilized Blackwood Lake as their water source. Demonstrating their expertise and precision, they successfully drafted water from the lake, effectively simulating a real-world scenario. The water was then pumped through a forestry line, a lightweight and flexible hose designed for rapid deployment in forest and brush fires.
In addition to the forestry line, our team also operated the deck gun, a high-powered nozzle mounted on fire trucks for delivering large volumes of water to fires. This exercise not only showcased the team’s proficiency in handling various firefighting equipment but also their readiness to respond to diverse emergency situations.
This training session underscores our commitment to continuous learning and preparedness, ensuring that our firefighters are always ready to serve and protect our community. We remain steadfast in our mission to enhance our skills and adapt to any challenges we may face in the line of duty.
