Chews Landing Fire Dept. Invites Public to Training

March 17, 2025
  • Back To News Stories

Last Friday during our Duty Crew, our training consisted of working with members that are at various stages of apparatus qualification. Being that this training would involve a number of different, but simultaneous tasks, we took the opportunity to invite the public to get a firsthand look at some of how we operate and what is involved to complete some of our fireground tasks.
In addition to a tour of the station and an overview of our apparatus, their tools, and functions, those in attendance got to see a demonstration of how our Engine Operators would secure a water supply from a hydrant, while simultaneously placing attack lines into service. This was followed by our Tower Ladder Operators setting up for aerial operations, and then working in conjunction with the Engine Operator to properly receive water supplied by the Engine, and finally placing aerial master streams into service.
This type of training not only tests the competency of our drivers to operate the various functions of their apparatus, but also the teamwork and coordination needed to successfully accomplish these tasks efficiently.
Volunteers are always needed. If you are 16 years of age or older, and looking to serve your community in a meaningful and challenging, but yet fun way, please visit our website https://chewslandingfire.org/join/ to learn more. You can also stop in M-F 8am to 4pm, or any Monday night after 6pm.
