Several of our members were recognized at the regularly scheduled Commissoner's Meeting of Gloucester Township Fire District #2 held on June 11, 2025. First, Captain Nick Giambri and Firefighter Paul Wolf Jr. of Squad 88 C Platoon were presented with Valor Awards by Lambs Terrace Fire Company Chief Anthony Dimitri for their actions at an MVA with Entrapment in 85's local on May 13, 2025. The crash caused a major natural gas leak, and with great personal risk, Capt. Giambri and FF. Wolf worked to quickly extricate the occupant.

This meeting also saw the official swearing in of new Chews Landing Fire Department Chief David Haines, who assumed his new role effective June 1. Chief Haines' son held his Bible as he took his oath while his daughter pinned on his new badge.

Thanks to our Mutual Aid partners from Gloucester Township Fire District 6, Glendora Fire Company, Runnemede Fire Department, Pine Hill Fire Department, Blackwood Fire Company, and all of the friends and family that attended. Congratulations Chief Haines, Capt. Giambri, and FF. Wolf.

Squad 88 and Engine 82 operated overnight on a dumpster fire at Fairways Apartments. SD88 made the initial knockdown, and once their tank water was depleted, went available. E82 remained on scene for overhaul and to confirm extinguishment.

This is a reminder to all to use caution when disposing of refuse. The most common things that lead to these sorts of fires are improperly discarded smoking or cooking materials; fireplace, fire pit, or grill coals; household flammable solvents, chemicals, or varnishes; and increasingly items containing lithium ion batteries.

Today around 4pm Tower Ladder 82, Battalion 82, and Chief 82 responded to an animal rescue on Little Gloucester Road. Upon arrival the crew verified a cat was stuck in a tree. An effort was made to reach the cat by ground ladder due to overhead power lines but the cat climbed higher in the tree. After reaching the top branches the crew was able to use the Tower to rescue the cat and return it to the owners.

🚨 Smoke Advisory – June 13, 2025

Hazy skies over Camden County today are due to wildfire smoke drifting in from Shamong Township in Burlington County. Air quality is currently moderate, but unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Recommended Actions:

😷 Sensitive groups (kids, seniors, heart/lung conditions): limit time outside.

🏠 Everyone: Keep windows closed & avoid heavy outdoor activity.

😺 Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

💨 Use air purifiers or wear an N95 mask if needed.

Stay safe & check current air quality at AirNow.gov or DEP.NJ.GOV/Airquality .
