On Sunday, May 19, Chief Millisky, Capt. Johnson, and the crew of Engine 82 were in attendance at the Camden County Fire Academy as it graduated its newest class of Fire Fighter 1 recruits. The Chews Landing Fire Dept. is proud to have had four of its members, Jared Barckley, James Johnson Jr., Tashon Peoples, and Luis Torres, graduate from the most recent class. The Fire Fighter 1 program encompasses over 180 hours of classes and practical evolutions over a 5 month period, and is required to conduct firefighting operations. Recruits are taught the fundamentals of firefighting, including suppression, rescue, building construction, fire behavior, and more. In order to graduate, recruits are required to pass the state tests for HazMat Awareness, HazMat Operations, and the state firefighters exam. These four members dedicated much time and effort over the months to not only attend and pass this course, but also to maintain work and school schedules, along with station duties. Please help us in congratulating these four members on their accomplishment, and welcome them to the rank of Firefighter. Special thanks to Chief Coordinator Paul Sandrock, as well as all of the instructors for a job well done in training these new recruits.
