Rescue 82 Responds to Overturned Vehicle

Shortly after 8:30 Rescue 82 was dispatched to the intersection of Athens Avenue and the Old Black Horse Pike for a reported overturned vehicle.

The Rescue Company arrived to find a car on its roof and that the driver of the vehicle had gotten out of the car on her own. The company assisted EMS with the packaging of the driver, as well as fluid mitigation and securing power on the vehicle.

The company cleared shortly after.



 
Detached Garage Fire

Companies were dispatched to 10 Orchard Ave for a structure fire. The call was orginally dispatched in Somerdale, then County Communcations advised Q-29 who was on the street of the change in town. Q-29 arrived and reported a detached garage with smoke showing. Q-29 streched a line to the garage. Shortly after, E-822 arrived and assisted Q-29 and assumed command. E-691 stood by at the hydrant. 8207 reported the fire to be extinguished and would be holding with E-822 and Q-29. The local and County fire Marshals were requested. No injuries were reported.


 
Vehicle Fire in 83's Local

At approximately 3:30 AM, Quint 83 and Engine 82 were dispatched to the Democratic Club on Coles Road for a vehicle fire. BLS 806 was added shortly after as a precaution. Engine 822 arrived on location and found a vehicle fully involved and went into service with an 1" 3/4 handline. Quint and Engine 83 shortly arrived to assist with fire suppression. Fire was quickly contained to the vehicle and no injuries were reported. Camden County Fire Marshal's Office and GTPD are investigating.

Rescue 82 goes to Stratford 2nd Alarm

Taskforce 641 was dispatched to 8 Union Ave for a reported dwelling fire. EMS arrived on the scene and reported the rear deck was heavily involved with extension to the dwelling. 6401 arrived and confirmed the report that there was heavy fire in the rear of a 2-1/2 story wood frame dwelling and struck the All Hands. Several lines were stretched and water supply established but the fire continued to spread and Command requested the Second Alarm. Rescue 82 was dispatched as the RIC Team as companies were trying to make an interior attack. The emergency evacuation was called as the interior condition deteriorated and companies went to a defensive attack. Companies operated on the exterior as the structural stability of the rear of the dwelling as well as the roof were in question. The fire was placed under control some time later and no injuries were reported.   

 
   
   
Life Member Retires from Alarm Room

The Chews Landing Fire Department would like to congratulate Dominick Patricelli on his retirement from the Camden County Communications Center after 34 years of service. Dispatcher 108 will sure be well missed by Camden County and all others. Happy retirement Dom!


 
   
   
MVA on Somerdale Rd

Around 14:30, Rescue 82 and BLS 806 were dispatched to Somerdale Road and Autumn Court for a MVA. FM82-A reported he had a two car MVA with fluids on the roadway. Rescue 82 arrived, secured the batteries of the vehicles and the fluids on the roadway. The driver of the vehicle reported that her car had flipped and landed right side up. She was transported by BLS 806 for injuries.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Chief Frank Wagner.  Frank was a pillar of the Chews Landing Fire Company.  He is one of the reasons we are  where we are today. 

Chief you will be missed sorely.

WAGNER, Chief Frank E. Of Chews Landing, NJ died on March 11, 2010 at the age of 73 years. Beloved brother of: Dolores Jaggard, Jean Eaton, Doris Pierson, Nina Tyler, Lindy Wagner, the late Edward Wagner, the late Billy Wagner, the late Harriette Robbins, and the late Edna Wagner. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Frank was a 55 year Life Member of the Chews Landing Fire Co. Station # 82, where he served in numerous capacities, including Chief from 1968-1976.

He also served as a member of The Board of Fire Commissioners District 2 from 1978-1987, and was an Exempt Fireman with the N.J. State Firemen's Association. He also was a long time member of Laborer's Int'l Union of America Local # 172, Hammonton, NJ, and a U.S. Army Veteran. Frank was an avid Phillies fan. He enjoyed travelling to Pennsylvania to hunt and fish, playing at the casinos, and spending time with his family. 


 
   
   
MVA with Entrapment in 83's Local

On 1/12/10 at approximately 1600 hrs, Rescues 83, 82, 84, along with BLS 806 and Medic 46, were dispatched to 701 Little Gloucester Road for a MVA with entrapment. While units were responding, GTPD updated the location to Coles Road and Fairway Drive. Quint 83 arrived and reported a two car MVA with two occupants trapped in one of the vehicles.  8301 assumed command and Rescue 82 was assigned extrication. Quint 83 handled the engine company responsibilities while Rescue 82 stabilized and neutralized the vehicle, then removed both passenger side doors and B post.  Medics on scene requested a helicopter for one of the occupants, and 2 additional BLS units. 8202 and Engine 821 handled the LZ, while Engine 842 de-energized the other vehicle involved and Rescue 84 mitigated a fluid spill.  Access was quickly made to both occupants and after packaging, they were transported to Cooper Trauma, one by ground and the other by Medivac 5. Despite the efforts of all companies involved, the occupant that was flown did not survive the crash and was pronounced at the hospital later in the evening.  The crash is being investigated by GTPD.


 
   
   
Firefighters Attend Reorganization Meeting

 Career and Volunteer Firefighters from all six Gloucester Township Fire Districts attended the annual Gloucester Township Council Reorganization meeting.  This meeting included the swearing in of newly elected Mayor David Mayer, along with Councilwoman Michelle Gentek, Councilman Daniel Hutchinson and Councilman Frank Schmidt.  We wish the new Mayor and all of Council the best in the upcoming year.


 
Taskforce 82 All Hands

Taskforce 82 was dispatched to the area of the 200 block of Landing Rd shortly after 21:30 hours. Camden County Communications reported to 8202 (C.Gerace) that they where receiving multiple calls. 8202 arrived and reported he had a 1.5 story single family dwelling 50x30 with heavy fire from Division A and quickly struck the All Hands. Ladder 84 & Engine 821 arrived and went into operation. The Crew of Ladder 84 laddered the rear of the dwelling and Engine 821 lead off with a 3 inch blitz line.
